Position Duties & Responsibilities:

• Mission Planning: Developing detailed flight paths and supervising allocated flights from a Remote Operating Centre (ROC).
• Risk Assessment: Compiling and filing in-depth safety cases and risk assessments for every BVLOS operation.
• Regulatory Approvals: Obtaining necessary permissions and operational approvals for specific flight areas, especially in controlled or restricted airspace.
• Pre-flight Checks: Conducting thorough diagnostics on drone hardware, software, and communication links to ensure technical integrity. 

• Remote Navigation: Operating the aircraft using telemetry, moving maps, and First Person View (FPV), technology to maintain situational awareness.
• Detect and Avoid (DAA): Maintaining vigilance to detect and avoid other aircraft, terrain, and weather hazards through automated systems or manual intervention.
• Aviation Communication: Maintaining continuous voice communication with Air Traffic Control (ATC) or ground security teams via radio networks.
• Emergency Management: Executing fail-safe procedures in the event of hardware failure or a lost Command and Control (C2) link. 

• Data Analysis: Processing aerial footage and telemetry data to produce post-mission reports for clients in sectors like mining, security, or agriculture.
• Logbook Maintenance: Updating and maintaining accurate flight logs, recording flight hours, and documenting any technical incidents.
• Technical Support: Troubleshooting software/firmware issues and performing routine maintenance to ensure the fleet remains airworthy. 

• Legal Adherence: Ensuring all operations fully comply with SACAA Part 101 Regulations  and the company's RPAS Operations Manual (ROM).
• Quality Audits: Participating in safety meetings and audits to improve operational standards and reduce risk. 

Minimum Requirements

• Remote Pilot License (RPL): You must already hold a valid SACAA Remote Pilot License for multi-rotor or fixed-wing aircraft.
• BVLOS Rating: A specific BVLOS endorsement added to your RPL. This requires advanced ground school and practical flight training focused on instrument-only navigation.
• Radio Telephony License: A valid Aeronautical Restricted Radio License to communicate with Air Traffic Control (ATC).
• English Proficiency: An English Language Prociency (ELP) certificate (Level 4 or higher).

• Aviation Medical Certificate: You must hold a valid Class 3 or Class 4 Aviation Medical Certificate issued by a SACAA-approved medical examiner.
• Visual Acuity: While the drone is flying "blind," the pilot must still meet standard aviation eyesight and color-blindness requirements for monitoring telemetry screens.

• PSIRA Registration: For any BVLOS role involving security or surveillance, you must be registered with PSIRA (minimum Grade C).
• Background Clearance: A clean criminal record is mandatory, as pilots often monitor sensitive infrastructure like mines or national borders.
• Experience: Most employers require at least 50 to 100 logged flight hours as a standard RPL pilot before advancing to BVLOS.

• Grade 12 (Matric): A National Senior Certificate with a focus on Mathematics and Science is highly preferred.
• Computer Literacy: Advanced software proficiency is required to manage telemetry data, flight logs, and automated mission planning software.
